We would like to introduce you to makeup artist Camilla Grossman the owner of the Birdcage Makeup Studio based in Lexington, Kentucky. They are a full service cosmetic boutique offering makeup application and lessons. Camilla also teaches group classes and is happy to go on location for weddings and events. The Birdcage Makeup Studio is also a retail establishment with a very comprehensive line of cosmetics and brushes created and curated by Camilla. Her cosmetics consist of more than 50 shades each of eyeshadow and lipsticks, as well as liquid and powder foundation, powder and cream blush, eyeliners, lip liners and more. Currently, twenty-nine different brushes are available to help in creating makeup magic. The diverse selection is extremely important because not everyone works well with the same brush type or size.
Background:
Camilla has worked in the cosmetic industry for her entire working career. She owned and operated a full service makeup and hair salon in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Georgia. It was during this time that she got involved with product development and formulations of products. The Cosmetic Studio line of products she created was extremely successful and was sold in over five states. In 1994, Camilla decided to sell her business and pursue her lifelong dream of being a makeup artist in New York City. Camilla has been fortunate to have had a flourishing 18 years of business with brides, runway, editorial, film, and designing the makeup for a Broadway play. In addition, her private clientele has included a Prime Minister and First Lady, actresses and actors, socialites and many more.
Here is the story behind Camilla opening up the Birdcage Makeup Studio: “In December of 2012 , I made my first visit to Lexington from New York City. As I was wandering around downtown freezing and looking for somewhere to warm up I was thinking, “Where is the makeup studio?” Fast forward to May of 2013, and I made the move from New York and became a downtown Lexington resident and began to watch all the new revitalization and growth. I knew it was just a matter of time for my thought to become a reality. With the 301 East Vine building breathing new life into downtown, I opened The Birdcage Makeup Studio in December of 2015.”
Passion:
Here is what Camilla said she loves most about what she does: “I have always said that I make the world more beautiful. Nothing feels better than making a woman or man feel better about themselves. I have also been fortunate to meet the most incredible people who started out as clients and have become close personal friends. I sleep, eat and breathe this industry. It’s not work. It is my passion.”
Weddings:
Camilla is available in her studio or on location for weddings. Here is what she wanted future couples considering her to know: “While it is a business, it is much more personal to me. When a bride decides to go with me as her makeup artist I consider this to be an honor and a huge responsibility. She is letting you in to her biggest and most important day. It’s my job to make her look her very best in a calming manner. It’s my job to stay cool under pressure for all that are using my services that day. That is why a trial is so important for all involved so there is no guess work or mistakes on the big day.”
The Birdcage Makeup Studio is located at 301 East Vine Street in Lexington, Kentucky.
