Mimi and Andy’s engagement session was at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky. Keeneland is a very special place to Andy and Mimi because of all the memories they have made there. Which made it the perfect place to celebrate their engagement. We had so much fun walking around the beautiful Keeneland grounds and hearing all about their love story. We especially loved meeting their sweet dog Pipster! We can’t wait to celebrate their wedding day later this summer!
Andy and Mimi met six years ago at a local hospital. They had just begun their medical residencies. Andy’s residency was in medical and Mimi’s was in pharmacy. They worked together for a few short weeks and ran into each other once or twice over the following years. They met again on April 1st 2017, an overcast, 40 degrees, drizzly day after running 13.1 miles through hilly horse farms at the Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon. Out of approximately 5,000 runners, Andy recognized Mimi after she had crossed the finish line. After a 45 minute freezing cold conversation, Andy asked Mimi to brunch and she happily agreed. They spent three hours talking about everything and nothing at the same time. They just enjoyed spending time together and sharing pictures of their adorable nieces and nephews.
For their first date, Andy put together a very thoughtful list of possible first-date activities for Mimi to choose from. Mimi decided to check out the rodeo. She thought they’d be surrounded by a myriad of built-in conversation starters. Turned out the rodeo was a little more violent than she expected and spent the night cringing as men and women were tossed from the backs of great beasts. Luckily, everyone made it out in one piece, Mimi and Andy left that night looking forward to a second date. Mimi and Andy enjoy traveling and spending time with their families, which includes their nine nieces and nephews. Together they love to cook and try out new recipes. They’ve also been known to place wagers on each season of the Bachelor/Bachelorette — winner gets to pick the next TV show to watch together. Andy and Mimi hate/enjoy running. They also love snuggling their dog Pipster.
Andy knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Mimi. So he put together the sweetest and most perfect proposal for her. Their good friends had invited them to a dinner out at the Lockbox for a belated birthday celebration. Sadly their son and nanny both got sick and they had to cancel last minute. Andy was already on his way to pick Mimi up and suggested that they keep their fancy dinner reservation. They enjoyed a lovely dinner and Mimi (much to Andy’s delight) suggested they wander around the galleries at 21c, just as they had done on their second date. As they strolled around the second floor, Mimi noticed that a few of the gallery doors were closed. She mentioned this to Andy, who walked towards one of the closed doors to open it. Mimi, not one for breaking rules, stopped him — what if that gallery was reserved for a special reason?! They shouldn’t interrupt. Andy opened the door and ushered Mimi in despite her protesting. Inside, she saw a room full of candles, a bottle of champagne, and desserts, and she immediately tried to retreat. Andy guided her back into the room and she turned to look back at him and saw a wall full of framed photos of them, their families, and their dog Pipster. Tears fell immediately when she realized the special room was for them. Andy proposed and it was the easiest question Mimi has ever had to answer.
