Adventurous Red River Gorge Engagement Proposal on Cloud Splitter

We were so excited when our friend Matt called us to tell us that he was going to propose to his girlfriend, Carson, in the Red River Gorge. He was coming into town to visit his friends and planned a 6-mile hike up to Indian Staircase and to Cloud Splitter. It is a very adventurous hike full of climbing up rock faces and grand overlooks. We took photos of the group throughout the day so that it wouldn’t make Carson question why we had our cameras on the trail.

Carson and Matt’s mothers knew each other for years. They realized that their kids had a lot in common and that they should meet. Matt listened to the great advice from his mother and got Carson’s number. After thinking about it for a week he decided to contact her. They chatted for a few days before Matt asked Carson out on a date. Carson and Matt met up for the first time in Martin, TN, at a Mexican restaurant for lunch. Afterward, they played tennis and disc golf. On their first date, Carson decided she didn’t want to try long distance since Matt lived in Florida. Nearly a year later, Matt contacted Carson again. They went on another “first date” around Christmas time, which went great. Conveniently, Carson had a family trip to Disney World. Matt met up with her twice to show Carson around Orlando. Matt decided to invite Carson on a ski trip with friends teaching her to ski for the first time. They had such a great time. Long-distance just became a matter of inconvenience, and there was no going back to life without the other. Matt and Carson love playing tennis together as doubles partners and as practice partners, hiking, skiing, playing cards and games, cooking, watching movies… so many things. They just enjoy spending time together.

After reaching the top of Cloud Splitter, Kevin and I (Anna) asked if we could get a picture at the overlook. We then asked Carson and Matt if they wanted a photo. We told them it would be cute if they looked out for a photo. Then Carson and Matt turned to each other. Matt got down on one knee and asked Carson to marry him. She, of course, said yes. We celebrated by taking some engagement photos. We are so excited for Matt and Carson! It was such an honor to capture this part of their love story.
