Surprise Engagement Proposal at Talon Winery in Lexington, KY

We were so excited when Dylan contacted us to tell us that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend with their dog at Talon Winery. He chose to propose at sunrise before they flew out for a weekend to spend time with family. Alex and Dylan first met in November of 2019. Dylan was in town for less than 24 hours; he had flown in late after a Philadelphia Eagles game to interview for a pharmacy position at UK. Alex was an intern on their busy trauma/emergency surgery service. As fate would have it, they matched on a dating app during the 24hrs Dylan was in town and the 8 hours Alex was not at the hospital. Dylan and Alex began talking and agreed to FaceTime, and the first conversation lasted over 4 hours. About halfway through their first FaceTime, Dylan booked a flight to Lexington, KY, to meet in person on one of Alex’s rare weekends off.

They talked every day, and the highlight of Alex’s day was when she saw Dylan’s name pop up on her phone. She tried to finish her intern work as quickly as possible so that Dylan and Alex could talk on the phone. They FaceTimed at least 3x/week. Dylan and Alex were falling for each other and hard. They decided they couldn’t wait for the planned weekend in Lexington, so Dylan decided to drive the 6 hours to Lexington from Winston Salem to meet one weekend earlier. They spent the weekend exploring Lexington and spending time together. Sunday came too soon, and they went on a walk at the Arboretum. Dylan and Alex sat on a bench and talked about life, football, our families. It was there Dylan asked Alex to be his girlfriend.

Dylan and Alex adore their dog, Bert. They love bringing him to breweries and taking him on walks in their neighborhood. Alex and Dylan love hosting their friends over for some pizza and beers on their back porch. With such crazy schedules, they truly love spending quality time in their home together. Fall weekends are dominated by college football and every Philadelphia sports team, and there’s a lot of them.

Alex is a Clemson alumnus, and her brother and sister are UGA alumni. Coincidentally, Clemson and UGA played each other in their season opener in Charlotte, NC, on 9/4/21. Alex’s family had planned to travel to Charlotte well over a year ago. Alex and Dylan decided that the return of college football was the perfect setting for their families to finally meet.

Being observant, Alex suspected this was the weekend Dylan would propose. He had arranged for Alex to get Friday, September 3rd off. She was absolutely convinced they were going to Charlotte, and he’d propose sometime in the afternoon. Dylan had suggested that they get brunch with their friends, Spencer and Lauren, at Talon Winery before their mid-morning flight. Dylan told Alex they had a special brunch special for Labor Day Weekend. Despite her suspicions about Charlotte, she never once questioned or became suspicious about this “Labor Day brunch” at a vineyard at 6:45 AM on a Friday. Talon Winery is very special to Alex and Dylan and is where they took their absolute favorite picture with Albert, their Bernese mountain dog.

Dylan told Alex they had to leave by 6:45 AM. He was oddly calm that morning and was not bothered by Alex’s slow pace. As they drove to Talon, they talked about their favorite picture and how much fun the weekend was going to be. They pulled up to Talon, and the sunrise was just absolutely breathtaking. Alex and Dylan got out of the car and started walking into the vineyard. Bert conveniently did his business shortly after reaching the grass. After Dylan picked up after Bert, they walked a few steps, and then he asked Alex to come to him. Dylan had Alex face him and held her hands. It was all a blur afterward and she began crying. From what she remembered, Dylan told her how much he loved her, how much they’d been through together and had overcome in the last almost 2 years. Dylan and Alex again talked about their very favorite picture and how it was taken at sunset at Talon last September. He then told Alex he could never imagine life without her and thought, what better way to start their life together than at sunrise.

Dylan said he would stop talking and let Bert take over, “because he could say it best”. Dylan then leaned over and began fiddling with Bert’s collar for several minutes. He finally finished and said Bert had something to ask. Alex bent down and read a tag on his collar that said, “Will you marry my Dad, please, Love Bert”. Alex then stood up, and Dylan got down on one knee and asked Alex to marry him. It was the easiest yes and so many happy tears. Dylan surprised Alex again, telling her that he had hired us to take photos. We then got to spend the next 2 hours capturing Alex and Dylan’s love in one of their favorite places, taking pictures while Bert ran around like crazy in the wet grass. It was the perfect weekend, and it was so special to get engaged in Lexington, where their love story began, and then get to spend all weekend with both of their families celebrating.

Congratulations, Alex and Dylan! We are so happy for you all. It was so much fun getting to capture your proposal and getting to celebrate with you all. We want to wish you many years of love, happiness, adventure, and craziness with Bert.
