Maris and Gabe’s engagement session was at Keeneland Racetrack in Lexington, Kentucky. They had the perfect glowy evening. Maris and Gabe are from Kansas and had recently moved to Kentucky for Gabe’s work. They loved that they could commemorate their time in Kentucky and have their engagement photos taken here before their wedding day in Kansas. We had so much fun getting to walk around the beautiful grounds of Keeneland, celebrating their engagement, and hearing all about their love story.

Maris and Gabe attended the same high school. Maris was a senior, and Gabe was a Freshman. Maris tried to take Gabe out of his shy shell during the first few weeks of band as the drum major because she wanted everyone to feel welcomed. They became very good friends that year. Summer came, and they ended up going in different directions. Maris and Gabe reconnected about five years later. Their friendship grew, and they spent more time together. Gabe had always been interested in being in a relationship from the first time they met. It wasn’t until years later that Maris realized how she loved spending time with him and their adventures. It may have taken a while, but it was well worth the wait. Maris and Gabe have been friends so long that they transitioned from being friends to dating. Their first official date was at a local Mexican restaurant in Hays, Kansas, on Maris’s birthday.

Maris and Gabe love to go out and try new eateries, cook together, and be homebodies. They also love to watch Maris’ favorite movies (often more times than Gabe would like), following Gabe’s favorite sporting teams (He has many sporting interests. He can watch and follow anything!) They also enjoy playing disc golf, and their favorite thing to do is to play with their Aussie, Belle Louise.

Gabe knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Maris. There was a venue back close to Hays, Kansas, that is a spa & resort. It had a beautiful little chapel and was the perfect place for a proposal. It was a Saturday and the office Maris worked at decided to do file closures. So they went in for the day. It was perfect timing. She was away, busy and unsuspecting. Gabe had spent the day of the proposal prepping by adding photos and rose petals throughout the chapel. When Maris got off work, he told her that we were going to check out the options that the resort had to offer and tour their location. They both got in a golf cart, and they started their “tour” down to the chapel. When Maris and Gabe got down there, he had Maris walk in first. It took her a minute to realize what was going on, but once she spotted their pictures on the table, Maris knew something was up. The proposal was perfect, and they enjoyed a spa day as a newly engaged couple!
