Kate and Antonio’s engagement session was at Shaker Village in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. They had the most beautiful fall day to celebrate their engagement. All the leaves on the trees were turning beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow. We had so much fun adventuring around the countryside with Kate and Antonio, hearing all about their love story. You could quickly tell how much they love each other. We can’t wait to celebrate their wedding day this winter!
Kate and Antonio met while attending a Memorial Day BBQ of a mutual friend. They started to chat about Shakespeare’s plays and how Antonio was a member of a local Shakespeare company. Their first date was at the library. Antonio was going to be in a community theatre production of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. Kate had never read or seen the play before, and Antonio recommended the 1982 BBC made-for-TV movie. Unfortunately, the only way they could find the movie was on a VHS tape from the library… And given the scarcity of VHS players in these modern times, the only way they could watch the movie was by using a dusty VHS player in the basement of said library. Thus, their first official date took place at 7pm the Tuesday of finals week in the basement audio/visual section of the UGA library. The chairs in the tiny cubicles were uncomfortable, the screen was barely larger than the average computer desktop monitor, and the headphones they wore to avoid interrupting the studying of the surrounding undergrads smelled faintly mildewy. With 10 minutes of the movie remaining, and the library set to shut down, the two made plans to return the next night to watch the last little bit. It made a convenient excuse to see each other once again, and both left feeling as though the night had been the perfect date. Together they enjoy visiting museums/zoos/aquariums, watching movies and reading books, going for walks, antiquing, road trips, and fancy date nights.
Antonio and Kate were heading for a fancy date night: an evening where they both dressed up and ate out at a fancy restaurant. These date nights happened about once a month, funds permitting. The night in question was meant to celebrate the last show of A Christmas Carol (Antonio played Bob Cratchit), and they had planned on eating at one of the newer restaurants in Five Points. Kate was a little surprised when Antonio said they needed to take a quick detour before dinner, but figured he needed something from the Physics building as he headed downtown. It wasn’t until they had parked the car in an unfamiliar parking deck and walked halfway to their destination that Kate realized Antonio was taking them to the same library of their first date. Since finals had ended the previous week, the quad was completely deserted. With the sun setting in the background, Antonio got down on one knee, and before he could officially ask the question, Kate said, “yes!”. They celebrated that night by eating dinner at LRG Provisions and taking a tour of the Christmas lights at Bear Hollow Zoo. We are so excited to share some of our favorite photos from their engagement session.
