Summer Engagement Session at Shaker Village in Harrodsburg, KY

Kara and Philip’s engagement session was at Shaker Village in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Shaker Village is full of southern charm from the historic houses to the fields filled with wildflowers. We had so much fun exploring the countryside with these two and hearing all about their love story. Kara and Philip first met in 6th-grade social studies. Philip had just moved from South Africa and had to introduce himself in front of the class. Kara remembers Philip saying hi to her in the hallways but it wasn’t until several years later that they connected beyond knowing each other in middle school. One day Philip was over at their mutual friend Jonah’s house. Kara and her girlfriends arrived to find the boys playing basketball. The boys stopped playing basketball and started talking to the girls. Some of the boys went home for dinner but Philip stayed late and talked with Kara. As Kara was about to leave they exchanged numbers so they could hang out again. They started out hanging with their group of friends but as the summer ended they realized they started to really like each other. Their first date was on the 4th of July. They went Rebra Lake in Richmond with Philip’s family. They had the best time walking around the event. They sat on a quilt and walked all the way until the fireworks. As the fireworks lit up they held hands. It was such a special date.

Kara and Philip continued to date for 7 years through high school and college. Philip knew he wanted to ask Kara a very special question. On April 21st they went to Louisville to visit the newest addition of the family. They spent time loving on the new baby and then afterward headed to Thunder Over Louisville. They had planned the trip for a few weeks because Philip really wanted to go see the fireworks. After the craziness of parking, they finally found the perfect spot to watch the show. Kara’s parents decided to join them. The moment was absolutely perfect as the fireworks started. Philip held Kara and asked, “If she would love him forever.” Kara jokingly chuckled saying, “maybe.” Next thing Kara knew Philip was down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course, she replied, Yes! The moment was so special. Fireworks were not only a part of their first date but also when Philip proposed. We can’t wait to celebrate their special day with them next year at the Winchester Opera House. Stay tuned for their wedding day love story.
