When Rohan contacted us about proposing to his girlfriend Simmy on Valentine’s Day weekend, we were so excited! Several of their friends and family joined in on the plan. Simmy and Rohan first met three years ago at a bowling alley with a few of their mutual friends. After meeting and talking to each other, it didn’t feel like it was their first meeting. Simmy and Rohan instantly became good friends and started hanging out more often. They never saw the connection when they were friends until last September when a couple of their mutual friends (Miloni & Anjali) thought that Simmy and Rohan would be a great couple. So soon after, their friendship turned into a relationship. Rohan and Simmy started messaging each other more often on Instagram to see how their day was going and find a day to hang out, but this time, it was just going to be the two of them. While they were talking through Instagram, Rohan was also messaging Simmy through his number, which Simmy didn’t have at the time. So he would text her random pickup lines (e.g., Wanna Holla’ For a Dolla’), and Simmy thought it was spam and ended up blocking his number. It took Simmy a couple of days to figure out who it was, but once she did, they laughed about it and decided to meet for a brunch date at First Watch. When they first met, Simmy definitely looked nervous, and Rohan was trying to play it cool and make sure she felt comfortable. They had a really fun date and talked about anything and everything. They enjoyed their first date and knew that more dates needed to happen ASAP. That same night, Simmy and Rohan also decided to meet up at one of their mutual friend’s houses, but they had to play cool and hide that they were now officially talking to each other. Simmy and Rohan love spending time together. One of their favorite things to do together is to play the Claw Machine games at Malibu Jacks. They have won plenty of stuffed animals for each other. When Simmy and Rohan are not at Malibu Jacks, they mostly like spending time with friends and family playing board games, cards, BBQing burgers in the backyard, biking, and hiking.
On the day of the proposal, an ice storm had swept over Lexington. All the plants and trees were covered in a magical layer of snow and ice, making for a romantic setting. Simmy and Rohan’s family and friends showed up early to set up and surprise Simmy. Simmy thought that she and two of her best friends/sisters (Miloni and Anjali) were doing a besties photo shoot at the University of Kentucky Arboretum. They walked her to where she thought would be a great spot to take pictures. With everyone hidden behind a bush, Simmy rounded the corner to hear a song playing. When she looked, she could see all her family, friends, and Rohan standing in the middle of a heart made out of rose petals. Rohan got down on one knee and asked Simmy to marry him. She, of course, said yes. It was a perfect surprise and a perfect Valentine’s Day gift and day to remember.
