Katie and Scott’s engagement session was at Gratz Park in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. Gratz Park is a beautiful location filled with historic houses, gardens, and brick sidewalks. Katie and Scott had the perfect evening with a glowing sunset. We had so much fun celebrating their engagement and hearing all about their love story.
Scott and Katie were both living in Nashville when Scott caught Katie’s eye right away. Scott asked Katie out on a date to a south beach-themed restaurant. They immediately bonded over their many shared interests and a similar sense of humor. For their next date, they went to a comedy club in Nashville, followed by a rooftop bar. Their dates continued with bowling, where Scott got to see Katie’s competitive side when she kicked his butt. They both love traveling, eating good food, watching movies, cheering on the Nashville Predators hockey team, and discussing economics (Scott likes to poke fun at Katie and says she’s an economics nerd, but she’s thrilled to have found someone that can appreciate her corny econ jokes)
Scott had planned an extravagant proposal for the fall, but the surprise was ruined late in the summer when his mother let it slip to Katie that he had a particularly nice hotel booked for one of their future trips. To throw Katie off, he was forced to surprise her with a lovely weekend at a beach resort the month before he planned to propose. A month later, for Katie’s birthday weekend, Scott planned a trip to Atlanta, where she was born, and near where her best friend lives now. Scott tricked Katie about where they were staying and surprised her when they rolled up to a beautiful lake-front resort. Katie thought this surprise was all for her birthday, even right up to the moment that Scott walked her down to the lake-front and showed her an elaborate set-up with a blazing fire pit and Adirondack chairs with cozy blankets. Even the flowers arranged in a heart shape and bottle of champagne cooling on ice didn’t tip her off, she still thought this was all a birthday surprise. It wasn’t until Scott got down on one knee that Katie finally realized what was going on! After he popped the question, they popped champagne and shared a sweet moment together (while Katie was still in shock!). A few minutes later, a stranger with a bright blonde bob walked over and said that she had been taking pictures of the proposal – but it wasn’t a stranger at all, it was Scott’s cousin Eve who lived in Atlanta and was in on the whole thing. The blonde bob was a wig and was an excellent disguise for Eve, who has long brunette hair. She also brought a congratulatory cake, and they enjoyed some slices with champagne before then heading to lunch together to celebrate.
All in all, it was a dream, and Katie still couldn’t believe that Scott pulled all of it off! The engagement ring was a family ring that Scott had re-mounted to include sapphires to match Katie’s eyes. We are so happy for Katie and Scott, and we can’t wait to capture their wedding day love story!
