Engagement Session at Ashland the Henry Clay Estate in Lexington, KY

Alex and Jake’s engagement session was at Ashland the Henry Clay Estate in Lexington, KY. It was a beautiful day to celebrate their engagement. The estate had beautiful flowers all throughout the grounds. We had so much fun getting to know Alex and Jake and hearing all about their love story.

Alex and Jake both attended the same church, First Alliance Church, and were involved with a high school youth group on Sundays. Their youth group would typically have small groups outside on Sundays to provide opportunities for people to get to know each other. Alex’s small group leader was married to Jake’s small group leader, so both of their groups would usually meet at the same location. Jake and Alex started to notice each other and became friends. It wasn’t until the group took their annual ski trip to Perfect North that a spark started to develop. On the trip, they quickly identified a common activity that they both enjoyed. Jake would always chase Alex down the mountain, which she loved. He then continued to chase her off the mountain as well.

When Jake and Alex met, they were both 15 and too young to drive, so when Jake turned 16 and was finally able to drive, they made it their official first date. He picked her up in his new car and was all dressed up. Jake had made a dinner reservation at Saul Good where they sat outside on the patio and enjoyed dinner and the summer night together. Once they were finished eating at Saul Good, they went to the Mad Potter and painted pottery. Alex and Jake love doing everything together and are best friends. They enjoy eating together, playing games, going for walks, watching tv, traveling, outdoor activities, the lake, and attending sporting events. Alex is always taking Jake on new adventures, and just the fact they are together makes it fun. Jake’s favorite thing they do together is to snow ski in the mountains and thinks that Alex is so good at it. There is never a dull moment with Jake as he loves always doing something. Just being together is what Alex and Jake love most.

Jake knew he wanted to ask Alex to marry him while he was living in Germany. Being together so much while living in Lexington made Jake realize when he was in Germany how much he loved Alex and wanted to be with her all the time. He was experiencing so many new things and always found himself wishing he could share his new experiences with her. Jake came home for Christmas and went on a ski trip with Alex’s family to Steamboat, Colorado. Since they first started to like each other on a mountain, he thought it would be the perfect opportunity to declare that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Alex. Jake spent three days trying to find the perfect spot. He wanted the moment to be captured, so he decided to hire a photographer at a popular spot where people take photos. At first it started out with group family photos. Then Alex and Jake took some photos by themselves. Alex thought they were done and walked away when Jake reached out to bring her back and told her he wanted to tell her something. Jake looked into her eyes and said, “Alex, we’ve known each other for a long time. I know what it’s like to be with you and without you…and I would much rather spend the rest of my life with you.” Jake then got down on one knee and popped the question. Alex had no idea. Their faces were frozen, but they were both smiling from ear to ear. Alex, of course, said yes! We can’t wait to celebrate with Alex and Jake this summer as they tie the knot. Stay tuned for their wedding day love story!
