Surprise Spring Engagement Proposal at the University of Kentucky Arboretum

We were so excited when Khang contacted us to tell us that he was planning to propose to his longtime girlfriend Amy. We met with him on a beautiful spring day to discuss the details and plan the perfect proposal. The Arboretum was stunning with flowering trees everywhere you looked. The reason he chose the Arboretum was because it was where they had their first date. So on a Saturday morning, Khang arrived at the Arboretum where he waited to surprise Amy under a gorgeous pink flowering tree. Amy was spending time with her parents that morning and her mom asked if she would go to the Arboretum with her. As they walked through the garden Amy mentioned to her mom that all the flowers and trees would make for really pretty engagement photos. When she turned the corner a minute later Khang was standing there waiting for her. They had plans that afternoon so Amy thought he just came early to surprise her and pick her up. It wasn’t until he got down on one knee that she realized what was happening. Amy was so surprised and of course, said yes. We then popped out from behind the bushes to congratulate Amy and Khang. Afterward, we took them all around the Arboretum for some engagement photos to celebrate their proposal. We loved getting to know them and hearing all about their love story.

Khang and Amy met during pharmacy school orientation at the University of Kentucky, the week before classes started. Khang noticed a pretty girl across the room. One of the ice-breaker activities involved standing in two lines, talking to the person across from you for a minute, then moving on to the next person, speed-date style. Khang got pretty nervous as the line started moving because he knew he was going to talk to the pretty girl. When they got paired Amy started to feel an instant connection to Khang. He thought she was really easy to talk to. Amy made sure to sit behind him during the next activity. In an attempt to be relatable and cool, Amy asked him about his Diablo desktop wallpaper on his laptop, despite the fact that she’d never played any of those games. This resulted in Khang referencing to her as “video game girl” for the next few weeks whenever Khang told his best friend about her. Regardless, it got them talking and they found out that they had a lot of common interests and got along really well. Amy spent the next few weeks timing her walk from the parking lot so that they would “casually” meet up while waiting for the light at the crosswalk.

After spending the day with friends bowling and playing board games Amy suggested that they all go for a late night walk. She had already told her friends that she liked this guy, and wanted them to scope him out. Eventually, as the best wingmen ever, they disappeared and Khang and Amy were alone. They ended up walking around the Arboretum and eventually sat down on a bench. They started talking and slowly she started leaning on him, placing her head on his shoulder. Khang wasn’t sure if she was interested in him or if she was just sleepy and cold, so he was unsure about making a move. Then suddenly they were startled by a possum rustling in the bushes behind them and Khang held her hand. Feeling her squeeze back, he was certain about her feelings for him and they spent the rest of the night together watching the stars until sunrise.

Khang and Amy are perfect for each other and love to travel. Some of their adventures together have been to Mexico, Costa Rica, Egypt, and countless other weekend trips. They love spending time with their adorable dog and cat, playing video games, and board games. We are so happy that they have found each other and were so honored that Khang asked us to capture his romantic engagement proposal to his sweet Amy.
