Romantic Fall Engagement Session at Ashland The Henry Clay Estate in Lexington, KY

Ellen and John’s engagement session was at Ashland The Henry Clay Estate on a crisp cold evening. We had so much fun exploring the historic grounds and hearing all about their love story. The fall colors were stunning with the leaves showing shades of red, yellow, and orange. We love the Henry Clay Estate for its garden, historic buildings, and nature that surrounds the property. Ellen and John are both so much fun to be around and are full of adventure. We absolutely loved talking to them about all of their travels. They will be getting married next year in Croatia.

John and Ellen met through a mutual friend while they were both attending the University of Kentucky. A group of their friends started to hang out almost every weekend. During those weekends with their friends, Ellen and John started to get to know each other. Ellen was immediately attracted to John’s sense of humor, intelligence, and his laid-back attitude. John was attracted to Ellen’s sense of adventure and her ability to turn any situation into a fun one. As time went on they started to get closer and started talking to each other every day. Eventually, John asked Ellen out on a surprise planned date. He took her to a winery and out for dinner. They had bonded over their shared taste of wine before their first date so it was the perfect start of an evening. Ever since their first date, they have made it their goal to visit all of the wineries in Kentucky.

John and Ellen had been wanting to visit Napa Valley in California since they both discovered their love for wine. They planned to go to Napa and Sonoma for a week at the beginning of September. They made a reservation at all of the wineries that they wanted to visit. On Sunday, September 3rd, John planned a surprise evening for Ellen and wouldn’t tell her where they would be going. He wined and dined her at a small French bistro in Nappa Valley telling her he had one more surprise. John drove Ellen to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park where they walked up to a secluded area and sat on a blanket. Together John and Ellen shared a glass of wine as the sun was setting. John got down on one knee and asked Ellen if she would spend the rest of her life with him. It was a night full of amazing memories that they will cherish forever.
