Fall Engagement Session at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky

Kirsty and Dan’s engagement session was at the historic Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY. Kentucky holds a special place in Kirsty’s heart. Kirsty is from Canada but lived in Lexington for some time working at the Griffin Gate Marriott. She grew to love Kentucky and the many friends that she made. Buffalo Trace Distillery is known for its famous bourbons, iconic barrel room, and buildings dating back to the prohibition. It was the perfect place to celebrate Kirsty and Dan’s engagement. Not only because it is a little piece of Kentucky, but it is also where Dan asked Kirsty to marry him. We had so much fun getting to know Kirsty and Dan and hearing all about their love story.

It was a cold winter night when Kirsty went to meet some friends for drinks at a local bar. As Kirsty approached the bar Dan was outside and complimented her and held the door open. Kirsty went inside and met her friends not thinking much about it. As she went to order her drink at the bar she accidentally bumped into Dan who said, “Hello stranger, we seem to keep bumping into each other.” Kirsty couldn’t help but laugh and reply, “That is the corniest line I’ve ever heard.” They continued to talk until it was time for the bar to close and realized that they were the only two people left. From that point on, they started to see each other and realized that it was something special.

Dan and Kirsty were visiting Nashville and decided to drive up to visit Buffalo Trace Distillery and go on the hard hat bourbon tour. After the tour, they planned to visit the Elmer T. Lee Clubhouse to look around. At the clubhouse, Dan went to the washroom. Since he was taking a while Kirsty decided to go outside and take some pictures so they could leave when he was finished. When he came out Kirsty told him that she had taken the photos she wanted and they could leave. Dan convinced Kirsty to go back outside to the wishing well. Kirsty and Dan visited the same spot a year earlier and Dan knew from that moment on that he wanted to propose to Kirsty there. Once they arrived near the well Dan asked Kirsty to watch a video on his phone. Dan put together a video compiled of clips that he had gathered from their family and friends. At the end of the video, it had their favorite song playing and it said, “Look behind you.” When Kirsty turned around Dan was down on one knee and asked Kirsty to marry him. Of course, she said yes! Even though they both live in Canada, Dan knew just how much Kentucky meant to Kirsty. He made her dreams come true and they can’t wait to get married in Kentucky next August. We are so excited to capture their wedding day at the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington, Kentucky. Be sure to check back next summer to see the rest of their love story unfold.
