The Pros and Cons of Planning Your Wedding On Pinterest

Pinterest is a wonderful free resource that can help brides get ideas from wedding venue locations to table decorations. The thing that we love most about it is that it is an endless resource to look at what past brides have done to inspire new brides. From color schemes, cakes, to flowers you can find just about any idea that you are dreaming of. Here are our pros and cons that Pinterest can bring while planning your dream wedding.

THE DETAILS

Pro: If you have a theme in mind for your wedding Pinterest is a great place to find ideas. They have the cutest ideas from the bouquet, cake, table decorations, and party favors. It’s great especially if you are a do it yourself person and have the creative skills to make these dreams a reality.

Con: We have heard it too many times from florists and bakers that Pinterest can bring disappointment. Unfortunately, with the great ideas that Pinterest brings it doesn’t have the price tag attached. Many things you see may be out of your budget or out of season. It is best to talk with professionals and keep an open mind about what you have dreamt about and what is in your budget. They can let you know your best options based on the time of year your wedding is.

THE PORTRAITS

Pro: Pinterest is great at helping you find locations where you can take photos at your wedding venue or even finding great locations for your engagement session. Whether it is a rustic, outdoor or urban feel by looking at photos you can see what best fits your personalities.

Con: One thing that you have to realize about your wedding day is that the Pinterest wedding you are looking at is not your wedding. The location, light, weather, etc. are going to be different than the pictures that you are looking at. Emotion cannot be faked on a wedding day. We tell our couples that on their wedding day we like to focus on them and tell their love story rather than try to recreate someone else’s. Not only does recreating images take up a lot of unnecessary time, but it doesn’t show your personalities and genuine love between you all.  Our biggest piece of advice is to trust your photographer because when you hired them you fell in love with their work and they will know how to best tell your story.

THEMES

Pro: If you type in the wedding theme rustic on Pinterest you are bound to find an overwhelming amount of ideas. This is great because it helps you to find what themes best fit your wedding.

Con: Some of the themes you may be seeing may be from several years ago and not current. Also, don’t be afraid to be quirky and move away from the current trends. One of our favorite parts of the wedding day is seeing all of the details our brides have planned that are special to them. No two weddings are ever 100% alike.

WEDDING PLANNING

Pro: Pinterest will help you cover all of your main bases from finding your details, themes, and decorations. It’s the perfect place to find the majority of your wedding decisions that only you can decide from the style and color of the bridesmaid dresses, bridal details, and groom and groomsmen tux ideas.

Con: The fun part of wedding planning for a bride is planning all the pros listed above. The unfun part can be all of the minor planning details, setup, and coordinating. That is why even if you feel like you have covered all of your bases it is still good to talk to a coordinator. They can help you with planning setup/teardown, the flow of the ceremony and reception events. Logistics can become one of the most challenging parts of the wedding day and unfortunately, Pinterest isn’t very much help for this.
